Breast Cancer Incidence in Cape Cod
towns, 1994 - 1998
Between 1994 and 1998, 11 of the 15 towns on Cape Cod had breast cancer incidence
rates at least 15 percent higher than those found in the rest of Massachusetts.
Elevated incidence was statistically significant in 7 of these towns. The map
below shows the Cape's townships, indicates their standardized
incidence ratios (in parentheses), and shows whether their incidence rates
are statistically significant. For information on how incidence is calculated,

We also looked at breast cancer incidence on Cape Cod
in geographic units smaller than towns. In order to discern whether
breast cancer incidence varied within towns or across town boundaries,
we looked at breast cancer in census tracts and census block groups.
