Participants in the 2000 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation/Boston Race for the Cure (pictured) wore paper numbers that not only helped organizers tally completion times, but also served as a graphic reminder of the 182,800 women in the United States* who were diagnosed with breast cancer that year.
