Welcome to the Silent Spring Institute Library Website. The Library website
was made possible through a grant from the National
Library of Medicine's 'Internet
Access to Digital Libraries' grant program. The grant enabled us to
purchase our own web server, and develop interactive applications for the
public in order to facilitate user-retrieval of health-related data and
information.
You'll find several electronic resources in this section, and for that reason
we've called it 'e-resourses'. We've included our
publications, a glossary,
an internet links
database, an interactive tool for looking at Cape
Cod's public water supply, and a site-wide search mechanism.
All of these applications were designed with you in mind, and we would very
much value your feedback!
Future enhancements to the e-resources section might include expanding the
glossary to include more words, and linking to external libraries, dictionaries
and other external resources, or sorting results alphabetically, by keyword
or by popularity. We would also like to allow users to create their ‘own’ personal
list of glossary items or internet links they use the most - thereby creating
your own 'portal' to health related information via our site.
We also have plans to provide a more interactive way to use our GIS data resources
- including the Cape
Cod Breast Cancer and Environment Atlas, and the Cape
Cod Public Water Supply data. We'll post more details about this as they
become available.
Meanwhile, please let us know if you like our e-resources, or have problems
accessing any part of the site. We really want these applications to be
useful, so all feedback helps!
The e-resources team.
