Will HEIS work with my computer browser?

For best results use Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, or Netscape Communicator 7.0 or higher. HEIS will work with older versions (IE 5.0, Netscape 4.1), and is compatible with other browsers like Firefox and Opera. You may need to set your browser to accept pop-ups from this site in order to see certain pages, e.g., the print page. HEIS has not been rigorously tested in any of these environments and unexpected behaviors may occur.

Why does it take so long to load maps?

You may have too many layers open. Try turning off some of your layers. You may also turn off Auto Refresh so you only refresh the map after you've finished checking or unchecking boxes. To turn off Auto Refresh, scroll to the bottom of the Layers tab on the right side until you see a check box labeled Auto Refresh and uncheck this box. Above this is the Refresh Map button that you should click when you want to manually update the map.

How do pop-up blockers affect HEIS?

Pop-up blockers may prevent certain HEIS pages, such as the print page, from functioning properly. If you click on a link to launch HEIS and nothing happens, there is a good chance a pop-up blocker is preventing HEIS from launching in a new window. Most pop-up blockers allow you to override the blocking function for specific sites or on a temporary basis, which will likely solve this problem. Pop-up blocker settings can usually be found under the Tools menu of your browser.

I tried to launch HEIS and nothing happened. Why?

The most common cause for this problem is that you've installed a pop-up blocker. Installation of a firewall or new security settings could also create a problem. If you've made changes to your network security/privacy settings or installed or turned on a firewall, those options may block secondary browser windows (like HEIS). Your computer manual should have information on how to adjust these settings to allow specified sites to launch new windows.

Why can’t I download data?

The HEIS website is designed to give you the tools with which to view and map health and environment data. The data will be available for download in the future, but at present is only available for view. If you are an ESRI ArcMap user, you may access the data using ArcWeb Services in order to use the extended tools provided with that software. For more information on using ESRI ArcMap click here.
